Issue #096 – Regulatory Updates & Technical Insights
We would like to inform you about an important regulatory change recently published by ANATEL affecting the 6 GHz Wi-Fi spectrum in Brazil.
ANATEL has published Act No. 10.400/2026, which amends Act No. 14.448 and reduces the frequency range currently permitted for Wi-Fi operation in the 6 GHz band.
Main Change to the 6 GHz Wi-Fi Band
| Current Requirement | New Requirement |
|---|---|
| 5925–7125 MHz | 5925–6425 MHz |
| 1200 MHz available for Wi-Fi | 500 MHz available for Wi-Fi |
Therefore, the 6425–7125 MHz portion (700 MHz) will no longer be available for Wi-Fi operation under the new requirements.
This change is related to ANATEL’s spectrum strategy to reserve the upper 6 GHz band for IMT/mobile services, including future 5G-Advanced and 6G networks, and is also aligned with the international spectrum discussions following WRC-23.
Effective Date and Transition Period
Although Act No. 10.400/2026 has already been published, compliance with the new requirements will become mandatory from March 1, 2027.
For products with existing ANATEL certificates extending beyond this date, compliance with the new frequency range will be required during the applicable periodic maintenance process.
Impact on Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 Products
Manufacturers of Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 devices should pay particular attention to this change.
- Products intended for the Brazilian market will need to ensure that their Brazilian regulatory configuration limits 6 GHz operation to: 5925–6425 MHz.
- Operation in 6425–7125 MHz must be disabled for Brazil once the new requirements become mandatory.
E3Tech is currently reviewing the new Act and its practical implementation with the Brazilian OCDs and laboratories. We will provide further guidance if ANATEL issues additional instructions regarding the transition process or the treatment of existing certifications.
If you have any ongoing or upcoming Wi-Fi 6E / Wi-Fi 7 projects for Brazil, please feel free to contact us so we can evaluate the potential impact on your specific product.
